Change is possible
What is so special is that we already have everything we need to be able to change. Often we can access our "inner resources" on our own. But sometimes we can benefit from assistance. A mental health professional can help release this potential that is within us from whatever is blocking it, and engage our inner resources to facilitate the process of change.
-
I work with an integrative approach which includes a tailor-made treatment: one that best suits you and your particular issue - here and now. This approach encourages you to achieve a state of wholeness in which you can function optimally. By wholeness we mean that all aspects of an individual are used to their fullest potential: feelings, behaviors, thoughts, the body, as well as the social and spiritual dimensions.

What is EMDR?
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, abbreviated to EMDR, is a relatively new and effective therapeutic method for processing traumatic memories. By overloading the part of your brain that processes memories, the fear associated with these memories can fade.
What is EMDR for?
EMDR is a therapy for people who are suffering from the consequences of a shocking experience, such as a traffic accident, (sexual) abuse or a violent crime. Often these are memories of the shocking event that keep intruding, such as flashbacks and nightmares. Other complaints that often occur are startle and avoidance reactions.
Does EMDR work?
A lot of scientific research has been done on the effectiveness of EMDR. The results show that clients often respond well to EMDR. EMDR is a short-term protocolled form of therapy. When it comes to trauma after a one-time major event, people are often able to resume their daily activities after just a few sessions. Treatment takes longer for people who have experienced long-term trauma and for more complex problems.
How does EMDR work and what are the expected effects?
With EMDR, the perspective lies in the here and now. So it’s not about what you felt, did or thought at the time, but what you think now about the past event. During EMDR, the working memory has to process a lot of information at the same time.
Because of that large amount of information, the working memory becomes ‘overfilled’ causing the emotional charge of the memory to fade. Because you start thinking differently about the event, you can leave it behind or give it a place in your life history and more easily pick up the thread of normal life. Hence it is important that the EMDR sessions are part of an integrative counseling process. -

Understanding the Power of Hypnotherapy
In our daily lives, the conscious and rational parts of our brain tend to dominate. However, when we’re stressed or anxious, the emotional subconscious regions often take control. Unfortunately, this subconscious mind can sometimes lead us to repeat unhelpful thoughts or behaviors we've relied on in the past. How Hypnotherapy Works
Hypnotherapy allows us to bypass the critical, conscious mind by using trance to achieve a state of highly focused attention or concentration. In this hypnotic state, we can speak directly to the subconscious mind, where true change occurs. This state of hypnosis makes you more open to suggestions, enabling positive changes in perceptions, sensations, emotions, memories, thoughts, or behaviors. The suggestions given during hypnosis are designed to take effect after you emerge from the trance. The Hypnosis Experience
Hypnotherapy can be a valuable tool in treating various mental health and medical conditions influenced by psychological factors. Often, a series of hypnotic sessions is needed to reinforce constructive suggestions. Contrary to popular belief, individuals under hypnosis are in complete control of themselves and would never do anything they would normally find highly objectionable. People often describe hypnosis as a calm and relaxing experience. You might feel "zoned in," so focused that you can block out surrounding distractions. This sensation is similar to being deeply engrossed in a TV show or a good book, where you no longer notice the noises around you.Trying Self-Hypnosis
You can experience the benefits of self-hypnosis with a simple exercise. Sit or lie down comfortably in a quiet place, close your eyes, and take a few deep breaths, slowly in and out. This can place you in a mild trance and a state of comfortable relaxation. In this state, try saying positive affirmations to yourself (e.g., “I can easily skip dessert”) and visualize pleasant events (e.g., picture yourself succeeding). Even a five-minute session can be highly beneficial for some people.Embrace Positive Change with Hypnotherapy
Hypnotherapy helps to address deep-seated issues and promotes positive changes in your life. If you're ready to explore the transformative potential of hypnotherapy, consider booking a session today. -

Understanding Couples Therapy
Couples therapy is designed to address current issues and work towards resolving long-standing dysfunctional patterns. Depending on your situation, we can focus on a single issue or delve deeper into the root causes behind your challenges. This process aims to create lasting change in your relationship dynamics, improving satisfaction and commitment while reducing distress. What to Expect
Couples therapy provides a safe and supportive environment where both of you can express your viewpoints with a neutral third party present. We focus on the interactions between you, helping you navigate through conflicting perspectives and high levels of distress. It's common for one partner to be more enthusiastic about therapy or feel more hopeful than the other.Areas of Focus
Therapy may be beneficial for couples facing:
• Unhelpful communication habits
• Emotional disconnection
• Trust or commitment issues
• Attachment insecurities
• Sexual intimacy problems
• Parenting style conflicts
• Financial disagreements
• Unequal decision-making
• Perceived unfairness in household chore division
Couples therapy is a journey towards better understanding, improved communication, and a stronger, more resilient relationship. -
“Neuroscience research shows that the only way we can change the way we feel is by becoming aware of our inner experience and learning to befriend what is going inside ourselves.”
― Bessel A. van der KolkIntegrative Approach: Embracing the Somatic Dimension
In my practice, I embrace an integrative approach that places a significant focus on the somatic aspect. As a certified yoga teacher, my aim is to guide you in establishing a profound connection with yourself through your body.Connecting with Yourself Through Your Body
During moments of stress, it's common for individuals to lose touch with their physical sensations, leading to shallow breathing and heightened anxiety.
Through a blend of yoga postures, meditation, breathwork, and relaxation techniques, we can effectively slow down the breath, increase heart rate variability, and alleviate stress. Yoga provides a gentle and secure method for you to reconnect with your body, allowing you to embrace every aspect of your physical sensations and release past trauma.
By engaging in these practices, you can foster both mental health and physical well-being, nurturing a harmonious balance within yourself.

Online
If an in-office meeting is not possible (distance, lack of time, illness, lockdown, etc.), we can also work together effectively online. The advantages of online counseling and coaching are accessibility and flexibility. Many people feel confident and comfortable in their home environment, and many feel safer and more free to express themselves online. Research shows that the effectiveness of online counseling and coaching is comparable to "in-office" care.
Outdoor Coaching
If you want to get moving, outdoor coaching is also an effective way. You can choose from different locations in Amsterdam where we will walk during the session. During outdoor coaching, the symbolism of the environment is constantly involved in the process. You are an organic part of your environment: of nature and also of the inhabited world. Everything around you is a mirror of the inner self and provides constant insight and inspiration to help you advance on your path.
